W swojej twórczości artystycznej Buhlmann rozwija systemy wizualne łączące rozmaite materiały i procesy wzięte z kontekstów kulturowych, twórczych i biologicznych. W prezentowanych tu pracach artystka bada czas jako czynnik materialny i procesualny, wspomagając się opisaną w książce On Growth and Form D’Arcy Thompsona analizą tego, w jaki sposób struktury organiczne kształtowane są nie tylko przez wewnętrzne zasady wzrostu, ale także przez siły fizyczne. Artystka łączy organiczny wzrost z formalną konstrukcją, tworząc tekstylia układające się w otwarte struktury w rytmie kolorów i tworzące porządki przestrzenne rzucające wyzwanie percepcji i uwidaczniające proces artystyczny. Poprzez splatanie elastycznych struktur powstają formy rzeźbiarskie przypominające żywe struktury komórkowe. Otwarte, podobne do siatki kompozycje odnoszą się do kruchej równowagi między stabilnością a zmianą.
In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis entwickelt Buhlmann visuelle Systeme, in denen sich Materialien und Verfahren aus kulturellen, gestalterischen und biologischen Kontexten verbinden. In den hier gezeigten Werken wird Zeit als materieller und prozesshafter Faktor untersucht, beeinflusst von D’Arcy Thompsons On Growth and Form und seiner Analyse, wie organische Strukturen nicht nur durch innere Wachstumsprinzipien, sondern auch durch physikalische Kräfte geformt werden. Die Künstlerin verknüpft organisches Wachstum mit formaler Konstruktion, wobei textile Materialien als offene Strukturen zu Farbrhythmen und räumlichen Anordnungen verwebt werden, die die Wahrnehmung herausfordern und den künstlerischen Prozess sichtbar machen. Durch Umwicklungen der flexiblen Strukturen entstehen skulpturale Formen, die an lebende Zellstrukturen erinnern. Offene, netzartige Kompositionen verweisen auf das fragile Gleichgewicht zwischen Stabilität und Wandel.
In her artistic practice, Buhlmann develops visual systems combining various materials and processes taken from cultural, creative and biological contexts. In the works presented here, the artist explores time as a material and processual factor, aided by D’Arcy Thompson’s analysis, described in his book On Growth and Form, of how organic structures are shaped not only by internal principles of growth, but also by physical forces. The artist combines organic growth with formal construction, making up textile materials into open structures, colour rhythms and spatial arrangements that challenge perception and make the artistic process visible. By joining the flexible structures together, sculptural forms are created that are reminiscent of structures built of living cells. Open, net-like compositions refer to the fragile balance between stability and change.
